Bottom Bunk Club is a folkpunk/antifolk band from Pōneke, Wellington, New Zealand. They combine the energy of a sweaty basement punk gig with the feel-good plucking and strumming of an old-time bluegrass hoedown. Imagine Woody Guthrie grew up listening to Green Day, and you might have an idea of what Bottom Bunk Club is all about.

PRESS
“A four piece acoustic quartet that merges the fast paced melodies of bluegrass with the fierce social commentary and f*** you persona of punk rock…
Their stage presence is engulfing drawing in the crowd and enrapturing them with tales of love and destruction, shoplifting and the joys of puking with your significant other“
– Daniel OBrien (Music.nz)
SOUND
Bottom Bunk Club oscillates on the musical spectrum between folkpunk, antifolk and thrashgrass. Their music can be best encapsulated by the old adage “three chords and the truth” (although not every song is limited to three chords, nor restricted to the truth). Lyrical contents are wide-ranging: the failures of trickle-down economics, covertly flirting with co-workers, the virtues of sleeping in, our collective obsession with digital screens, and hot sisters.
Regardless of the subject matter, each song’s message is packed into a tight catchy melody that is irresistible to sing along with. If you like acoustic music that is exciting, thought-provoking and just a little bit different, Bottom Bunk Club may be the band for you.

ABOUT

Bottom Bunk Club was founded in the break room of a non-descript office building by a pair of disgruntled employees in the early days of 2024. Originally a guitar & mandolin duo combining Jake Bergstrom and Jesse Walsh, Sam Banks was soon brought onboard to play bass. The band released its first EP in November 2024 featuring the single “Puke”.
In 2025, Bottom Bunk Club expanded again with Finn Hurley joining to play guitar which allowed Jesse to pick up the banjo. As a fully-formed quartet, the band recorded their debut album “Ratbag Apartment” and began touring New Zealand and Australia.
Tech Requirements
Four vocal mics across the stage in a line. DI box/inputs for guitar, banjo, mandolin and bass. Bass amp (with DI out) is preferred but doesn’t suite every venue.
